Delhi: Fundamental Freedom protected by Judiciary will collapse the day courts start believeing what investigative agencies say as gospel truth: Kapil Sibal
Reacting on the judicial custody of former Finance minister P Chidamabram, Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal in a tweet said that fundamental freedoms protected by the judiciary are at risk of collapsing the day the courts start believing as gospel truth what the investigative agencies say.
Sibal questioned as to who will protect our fundamental freedoms; and asked if it’s the CBI, ED, Income tax authorities or Courts?
Pointing out the contributions of former Chief Justices of India, Justice Bhagwati and Justice Venkatichaliah towards ensuring that fundamental freedom of individuals are protected by the judiciary, Sibal lamented that the day is not far away when these freedoms would be devoid of such protection.
In his tweet, Sibal asked, “Who will protect our fundamental freedoms? Government, CBI, ED, Income Tax Authorities or courts? The day courts believe what ED, CBI say is gospel truth the pillars of freedom built in the Bhagwati to Venkatachaliah era will collapse. That day is not far away.”
Former Union Minister P Chidambaram was taken to Delhi’s Tihar jail after a CBI court on Thursday ordered judicial custody for him for two weeks in a corruption investigation.
