French President to arrive in Chandigarh on three-day visit to India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally receive French President Francois Hollande at Rock Garden in Sector 1 here on Sunday at 3 pm.  The French President will be chief guest at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26.

Begining his three-day tour in India, Hollande will visit tourist spots Rock Garden, Capitol Complex, Government Museum and Art gallery  with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chandigarh.

Modi and Hollande will be discussing bilateral ties on Monday and there are expectations that a years-long multi-billion dollar deal to buy 36 French fighter jets will be sealed.

The multi-billion dollar Rafale jet deal is on right track but agreeing on technicalities takes time,”  Hollande told .

PM Modi and President Hollande will discuss ways to strengthen counter-terror cooperation in the aftermath of Paris and Pathankot terror strikes.

Modi announced in Paris last year that New Delhi had agreed to buy 36 Rafales jets, as India rapidly modernises its Soviet-era military in part to keep up with neighbouring rivals Pakistan and China.

Travelling with a large business delegation, President Hollande and Modi will address a CEOs forum and India-French Business Summit in Chandigarh.

He will be accorded a ceremonial reception at the forecourts of Rashtrapati Bhawan on Monday.
