Free Wi-Fi mostly used at Patna Railway Station for searching ‘porn’

Free Wi-Fi services which were installed at Patna Railway Station is mostly used for searching porn, a railway official on Monday informed. Patna ranks first for using internet search through free wifi.

“More than any other railway station in the country, where free Wi-Fi service was launched, the Patna railway station is on the top in the country for using internet search, particularly search for porn sites,” an official of RailTel, a mini-Ratna public sector undertaking (PSU), said.

After Patna, Jaipur railway ranks second followed by Bengaluru and New Delhi.

“It was revealed from our records of use of data by users,” the official said.

Patna Railway station which falls under Danapur Division of East Central Railway is the first station in Bihar to have a free Wi-Fi service and the most crowded as 200 trains pass through it.

According to RailTel officials, people are using free Wi-Fi for Youtube at Patna, followed by Wikipedia. “More than anything, porn sites have been watched and downloaded by the people at Patna railway station.”

Free Wi-Fi is also used to download movies – Hollywood and Bollywood and apps.

Currently, RailTel provides 1 gigabit Wi-Fi at Patna railway station but due to the slow speed, the speed might increase to 10 gigabytes.

The Free Wi-Fi services were installed by the central government at Patna with two other railway stations across India including – Visakhapatnam and Ranchi.

As of now, 23 railways stations in the country enjoy free Wi-Fi. Railway minister Suresh Prabhu said in the next three years the government plans to install the Wi-Fi services in all the major railway station.

“By this year-end, the free Wi-Fi facility will be launched at 100 major railway stations. We will achieve our target of 400 stations in three years. Once in place, it will be the largest public Wi-Fi system in the world,” Prabhu said.

Mumbai Central was the first railway station in the country to enjoy the free Wi-Fi facility.
