New Delhi, 17 Oct: A pall of gloom was descended to the family of US sprinter and former world champion Tyson Gay when his 15-year-old daughter was shot dead in US state of Kentucky on Sunday.
Police have arrested an accused in connection with the shooting
She became the victim during an exchange of fire between two vehicles at a restaurant car park, said the Lexington police.
Trinity was shot at in the neck by a bullet and was immediately taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
“She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened,” Gay told a TV channel.
Like her father, Trinity Gay was also an athlete and competed for Lafayette High School.
Tyson Gay competed in the last three Summer Olympics. He was part of a team that won a silver medal in the 4×100-meter relay at the 2012 London Games though that medal was ultimately stripped after Gay tested positive for steroids in 2013.
Tyson Gay is the second fastest 100m runner of all time after Jamaica’s Usain Bolt.
Tsunami of condolences emerged on social media to Gay after the news spread.
