Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee on ventilator support, condition critical

Kolkata, Aug 12 : Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee’s condition is critical and he is on ventilator support.

Chatterjee was admitted to hospital on August 10 following kidney ailments. His condition is said to be critical and has been put on a ventilator. As per the hospital sources, Chatterjee has been suffering from various diseases.

89-year-old Chatterjee has breathing and cardiac problems, hospital sources said.

He was earlier admitted to a Kolkata hospital in June. He was released after his health improved after a few days. “Chatterjee is gradually improving but will take more time (to recover),” the senior hospital executive had said.

Chatterjee, a former CPI(M) leader and 10-time Lok Sabha MP, was speaker of the Lok Sabha in the first Congress-led UPA government from 2004-2009.
