Forest fire continues to rage in Mount Abu

Rajasthan, April 17: A massive forest fire broke out in Rajasthan’s Mount Abu, continued to rage in pockets of the area on Sunday.

The two fire fighting operations MI-17 V5 helicopters of the Indian Air Force (IAF) resumed the ‘Bambi Bucket’ operation today pouring 53,000 litres of water to douse the wildfire in Mount Abu.

Madhya Pradesh: Man kills class 11 student outside school

Anuppur, Feb 23: A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death with a sword outside her school at Kotma village in Madhya Pradesh. 

The incident came to light on Thursday, when the girl, who was studying in class 11 of an all girl’s government school was attacked with a sword on her neck, where she died on the spot, news agency ANI reported.

The victim’skin alleged a man named Dilip Sahu to be her killer.

“In 2014 the girl had filed a complaint of eve-teasing against the Dilip and a criminal investigation was done on the matter,” stated SDOP Vijay Singh.

Following all this, the police held Dilip and are interrogating him.

“I saw a girl outside and a man walking behind her outside the school and thought they were family. The man suddenly started beating the girl. I tried to intervene and shouted him to stop, as I was about 20 feet away, he managed ran away,” said an eyewitness.

The investigation is underway in the matter.

Himachal hills may turn white this weekend

Shimla, Feb 23: If you want to witness snow this weekend, head to Himachal Pradesh as the Met predicts chances of precipitation at many places.

“A Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Himalayan region on Friday with its peak activity on Saturday,” the meteorological department statement said.

Chances of widespread snow in higher reaches of Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti, Sirmaur and Chamba districts were high.

Most of the prominent tourist towns like Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda, Manali and Dalhousie, located in mid-hills, may witness moderate snowfall after Friday, the Met official added.

Shimla, which saw a low of 8.1 degrees Celsius, had received moderate snow on February 12 and 13, like its neighbouring Kufri, Mashobra and Narkanda.

Tourist resort Manali, some 250 km from here, saw a low of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place in the state at minus 4.1 degrees Celsius.

It was minus 1.2 degrees in Kalpa, 7.5 degrees in Dalhousie and 8.8 degrees in Dharamsala town.

The weather bureau said rainfall and snowfall is expected at most places on Saturday with chances of heavy spells in mid and high hills.

Low hills and plains were likely to see hailstorm.

Those in the hospitality industry are happy as they are expecting a record number of footfalls this weekend owing to chances of more snow.

“Snow is an added attraction for the tourists,” D.P. Bhatia, Shimla-based liaison officer with the Oberoi Group of hotels, told IANS.

Bigg Boss Kannada set gutted in fire at Innovative Film City near Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Feb 22: A major fire broke out on Thursday at the Innovative Film City in Bidadi, about 40 km from here, which gutted the sets of reality show “Bigg Boss Kannada” and melted down a wax museum, police said.

The fire service personnel have doused the blaze. There were no casualties in the incident, Sub-Inspector A.V. Kumar told news agency IANS.

“The fire is suspected to have broken out at about 3 a.m., and has completely burned down the ‘Bigg Boss Kannada’ set and a wax museum,” Kumar said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, he said.

Goods worth few lakhs of rupees, were estimated to have been destroyed in the fire.

Innovative Film City, situated in Ramanagara district, is an entertainment park and film studio that houses several reality television shows’ sets and museums.
