Jammu and Kashmir, Jhelum

Srinagar, June 30: Authorities have declared flood alert in Jammu and Kashmir as Jhelum river crossed danger mark in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district following heavy rains over the past two days.

Advisor to J&K Governor BB Vyas said that three deaths have been reported so far from Jammu region.

“3 deaths have been reported till now from Jammu region. Kashmir can expect the same weather till this evening & some relief after that. In Srinagar, we’ve established 44 shelter sheds. Waterlogging is one of the toughest challenges”, Vyas told Media.

On the related note, Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra chaired an emergency meeting to discuss the flood-like situation in the state.

As both the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps were lashed by heavy rains during the last two days, the annual Amarnath Yatra was also suspended.

Earlier, due to slippery trek routes and bad weather, no Yatri was allowed to move towards the Cave Shrine from either base camp.

As a precautionary measure, all the schools in Kashmir will be shut on Saturday.

“In view of the incessant rains, inclement weather and as a precautionary measure, all schools in Kashmir division to remain closed today,” Syed Abid Shah, Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar told ANI.
