New Delhi, Aug 2 The BJP leadership is planning to celebrate Independence Day by flag hoisting events in over 2,000 villages in Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of national festival. If all goes well, the countdown for the much-awaited polls in Jammu and Kashmir would begin soon.
BJP spokesperson for Jammu and Kashmir Affairs, Sheikh Khalid Jehangir will attend the Independence day celebrations in Ganderbal.
BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav will address the event.Out of 4,490 panchayats in the state, more than half lies within the Valley.
About 28,000 troops of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) are being deployed in Kashmir Valley, in addition to the 10,000 troops which were deployed there last week amid security threat from the terror outfits, mostly by the modules of Jaish-e-Mohammed(JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) active in Kashmir.
Through a chain of the flag hoisting ceremonies across the valley, BJP wants to generate a momentum in support of Centre’s pro-nationalist agenda.
Assembly elections in the Kashmir valley are likely to be held in October.
While there is uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir over the fate of Article 35A of the Constitution, which prohibits outsiders from purchasing property in the sensitive border.
