Bhopal, April 4: Shivraj Singh Chouhan led Madhya Pradesh government gave ‘Minister of State’ (MoS) status to five religious leaders on Wednesday.

Before granting them the MoS status, the ruling government first appointed Computer Baba, Bhaiyyuji Maharaj, Narmadanandji, Hariharanandji and Pt Yogendra Mahant to a committee set up for the conservation of the river Narmada, water, and tree plantation.

As members of the committee, they have been given the ministerial status, MP’s General Administration Department (GAD) official told news agency PTI.

The move has been criticised by the opposition as Congress spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi said “It’s a gimmick to score political points. He ignored conservation of the Narmada. These saints should inspect where the state government has planted six crore saplings as claimed by the Chief Minister”.

Reacting to this, BJP state spokesperson, Rajnish Agrawal, refuted the allegations, saying the opposition dislikes anything related to religious leaders. “Saints and seers were accorded the Minister of State status to make their work of river conservation easy. The saints were roped in for the Narmada conservation work to ensure public participation”.
