First spell of winter rains in northern areas

New Delhi, Jan 7: Northern areas witnessed the first spell of winter rains on Saturday bringing more chill to the season.

Delhiites experienced a pleasant Saturday morning with rains showers resulting in the dip in the minimum temperature which was recorded at 13.5 degrees Celsius.

70 trains are arriving late in Delhi and 7 cancelled due to fog.

According to the Northern Railway official, 16 trains including the New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express, Delhi-Amritsar Shan-e-Punjab Express, Jharkhand Sampark Kranti Express, Vikramshila Express and Nizamuddin-Chennai Central Duronto Express were rescheduled.

Two International flights delayed at Delhi’s IGI Airport, one cancelled. Four domestic flights delayed due to weather conditions.

The city has received 3.4 mm rainfall since morning, the weatherman said.

The winter chill in Uttar Pradesh prevailed on Saturday due to rainfall at some places, the meteorological department said. More thunder showers along with dense fog is likely to follow.

It has forecast the weather will remain the same for the next few days.

As per the Met office, the visibility dropped to below 10 metres at some places, and snowfall in hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and neighbouring Uttarakhand have intensified the cold wave in the state.

Minimum temp settles at 7.8 degrees Celsius in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 17 : Delhiites today witnessed clear skies with the minimum temperature settling at 7.8 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year.

According to the Meteorological (MeT) department, the maximum temperature was recorded at 23.6 degrees Celsius, one degree above the normal.

The humidity level was between 92 and 33 per cent respectively.

The MeT office has forecast mainly clear skies with mist in the morning for tomorrow.

“The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 23 and nine degrees Celsius tomorrow,” the weatherman said.

The visibility was today recorded at 1,500 meters at 5.30 am which significantly improved to 3,000 meters at 8.30 am, the MeT office said.

Two actresses held in Hyderabad on charges of prostitution

Hyderabad, Dec 17: A prostitution racket was busted here with the arrest of four persons, including two actresses from Mumbai, police said on Sunday.

The arrests were made during raids on two five-star hotels in posh Banjara Hills area late on Saturday night, police said.

Those arrested include an actress from Bollywood and another television actress. Two brokers, who were running the racket online and booking rooms in star hotels for the customers, were also taken into custody.

Police, however, have not identified the actresses. A police officer said two girls from Mumbai were arrested from the hotels. He said further investigations were on.

S. Ravinder, inspector at Panjgutta police station, said the police conducted the raid on a room at Taj Deccan following information that organised sex racket was being conducted.

Later, two more persons, including the television actress, were arrested from another star hotel in the same area.

This is not the first time that actresses have been arrested on charges of prostitution. In 2014, an actress from Mumbai was caught on similar charges. However she was acquitted by a court in December that year.

More than 100 shops gutted in the fire which broke out in a shopping complex in Bhopal’s Bairagarh, more than 20 fire tenders at the spot, cause of fire yet to be ascertained
