Guwahati: Massive fire broke out in three coaches of Silchar-Trivandrum Express at Silchar Railway Station in Assam’s Cachar district on Sunday morning.
The Silchar-Thiruvanathapuram superfast express is the longest running superfast train, with a total of 54 halts and runs for about 76 hours and 35 minutes.
The passenger train was stationed at the Silchar railway station when the coaches caught fire.
The Silchar Fire Service and SDRF personnel immediately reached the spot and efforts are on to douse the flames.No causality has been reported so far.
Local MP, Sushmita Dev, tweeted, “The fire at Silchar railway station burning down coaches of the Trivandrum Express raises questions on safety and security measures. Luckily no loss of life but the reasons for fire must be investigated thoroughly.”
