FIR filed against WB BJP chief for remarks against Mamata Banerjee

Dec 12: Amid the remarks of BJP’s West Bengal President Dilip Ghosh against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a FIR has been registered at Jhagram Police station. Ghosh on Sunday had said that Banerjee has lost her mind.

Earlier in the day, a Muslim cleric issued a fatwa against Dilip Ghosh for making ‘filthy’ comments against Banerjee. Shahi Imam of Tipu Sultan Mosque Maulana Noor-ur Rahman Barkati told a press conference that he has issued the fatwa against Ghosh for “making filthy comments against the chief minister”.

“From where does he get such audacity to make filthy comments against our beloved chief minister who is the most secular leader of our country? I issued the fatwa which states that he should be pelted with stones and then kicked out of Bengal. He does not deserve to stay in Bengal,” Barkati said.

Trinamool Congress spokesperson Derek O’Brien said Ghosh’s utterances mark a “new low in politics”.

Reacting to Ghosh’s recent comments that the Trinamool supremo “has lost her mind” after the demonetization of high-value currency notes and threat that the central government could have held her by the hair and thrown her out when she led a demonstration in Delhi, he alleged that the BJP is “desperate” to silence the opposition.

“The BJP cannot fight Mamata Banerjee on policy, good governance and her principled stand on demonetisation on behalf of millions who are affected,” read the statement by O’Brien on their official website.

Earlier on December 2, addressing a rally, Ghosh said that “the Chief Minister of our state is semi-mad. She doesn’t want to remain at home. She wanders on the streets.”

“Our Chief Minister had gone to Delhi. She has made a lot of song and dance there. Tell me, we have our government there. If we had wanted, couldn’t we have held her by the hair and thrown her out?”
