Varanasi, April 28 : In an attempt to highlight their pathetic state, a group of 50 turmeric farmers from Telangana’s Nizamabad have filed their nomination as independent candidates from Varanasi constituency to contest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

“We are not opposing anyone. We just want to highlight our problems and demand creation of a turmeric board and Minimum Support Price of Rs 15000 per quintal (MSP) for turmeric,” a spokesperson for the farmers said while speaking to ANI.

Ganga Reddy, a leader of the group of farmers said turmeric farmers from Tamil Nadu also want formation of turmeric board.

The BJP-led government at the Centre has failed to form a turmeric board, he alleged.
