Ex-TV Anchor Suhaib Ilyasi acquitted in Wife’s Murder case

New Delhi, Oct 5 : Former TV anchor and producer Suhaib Ilyasi, who was sentenced to life in jail for the murder of his wife 18 years ago, has been acquitted by the Delhi High Court.

52-year-old Suhaib Ilyasi, who hosted popular crime show “India’s Most Wanted”, had appealed against his conviction and imprisonment.

A bench of Justices S Muralidhar and Vinod Goel allowed the appeal of jailed Ilyasi challenging his conviction and life imprisonment in the case.

Earlier trial court had sentenced him to life term for the murder

Justice S Muralidhar said there was no evidence against Ilyasi that points his guilt of the crime.

The trial court had on December 20, 2017 convicted Ilyasi under Section 302 IPCon  charges of stabbing his wife Anju to death and sentenced him to a life term saying he “committed murder and gave it a colour of suicide”.

The court had further asked him to pay Rs. 10 lakh to his wife’s parents.
