Lucknow, Dec 2 : Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav lashed out at Yogi Adityanath government  and said most of the encounters happening in the state  are fake, its not the opposition which is saying this but the National Human Rights Commission.

Yadav said , “Law and order is deteriorating further because of this.”

The Supreme Court  has sought Yogi Adityanath government’s reply on a number of encounters carried out by the Uttar Pradesh police ever since he came to power in 2017, said reports.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government on the PIL filed by the NGO, People’s Union for Civil Liberty (PUCL).

Lawyer Sanjay Parikh, appearing for PUCL, alleged that as many as 500 encounters have been carried out in Uttar Pradesh recently, in which a total of 58 persons have been killed.

Earlier on allegations of fake encounters against the Uttar Pradesh police, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)  issued notices to the UP chief secretary and the police chief. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had observed that the police personnel were misusing their power and gunning down alleged criminals in a bid to curb crime and even reportedly “using their privileges to settle scores”.
