Election Commission orders FIR against Gautam Gambhir

New Delhi, April 27: The Election Commission on Saturday directed East Delhi Returning Officer to register an FIR against BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir for “holding a rally without permission.”

The poll body said cricketer-turned-politician had not taken permission for his election rally on April 25 in Delhi’s Jangpura.

Gambhir has replaced Maheish Girri as the BJP candidate from East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, will contest against Congress’s Arvinder Singh Lovely and AAP candidate Atishi Marlena.

Earlier, the the former cricketer invited a flak Atishi filed a complaint against him for allegedly having two voter id cards.

The complaint was registered on Thursday under Section 155(2) at the Tis Hazari Court, seeking direction for police probe into offences punishable under Sections 17 and 31 of The Representation of the People Act, 1950 and Section 125A of The Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The plea will be heard by a Metropolitan Magistrate at the district court on May 1.
