New Delhi, July 3 : Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal made a scathing attack on the Election Commission, saying that the EC was sleeping during Lok Sabha polls as Defence Ministery filed a complaint to the election body against the political parties for asking votes in the name of Martyrs and politicisation of the Indian Army in the polls.
“The Election Commission is part of the problem,”But What did the Election Commission do ? when votes were sought in the name of martyrs . Whether Election commission was sleeping,” Sibal asked.
Sibal quoted EC’s advisory which was issued in March prior to the Lok Sabha elections curbing the politicisation of the Indian Army in the polls. Sibal pointed out how votes were gathered in the name of Indian soldiers. “EC was sleeping during LS polls,” says Sibal, inviting uproar from BJP.
AT the insistence of defence ministry, the election commission ssued an advisory to all national and state political parties asking them to not use photos of defence personnel in campaign materials.
The advisory asks political parties to ‘desist from displaying photographs of Defence personnel or photographs of functions involving defence personnel in advertisements, or otherwise as part of their election propaganda or campaigning’.
“Did the Election Commmision take action? I did not see any action bythe election commision,” Sibal asked after uproar by the BJP.
