Earthquake jolts northeastern states


Shillong, Nov 15: Northeastern states on Tuesday rocked after a moderate earthquake of 5.0 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the area, an official said.

However, there are no reports of any casualties or damage yet.

The tremor occurred at 7.40 a.m. with an epicentre located in Assam’s Karimganj district bordering Bangladesh, an official of the Regional Seismological Centre here said.

According to the seismologists the seven northeastern states — Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur – are considered as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.
