Drunk 19-yr-old jumps red light, rams car

New Delhi, Aug 12 : A 19-year-old boy driving a Mercedes car under the influence of alcohol has been arrested for jumping a red light and ramming another car here, police said on Saturday.

The accident took place around 11 p.m. on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police B. K. Singh told IANS that the accused was driving under the influence of alcohol.

He said the accused before hitting the car did not stop at a checkpoint when the police flagged him down.

The youth then jumped the signal and rammed his car into a Swift coming from the opposite direction, police said.

Police identified the accused as Dhruv Bagla and said that his 20-year-old co-passenger was also drunk.

No one sustained serious injuries in the accident, police said.

New Delhi, June 18: The national capital woke up to a partly cloudy sky on Monday with the minimum temperature recorded at 28.2 degrees Celsius, the season’s average.

The air-quality across the National Capital Region (NCR) was very poor on Monday morning, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

“The sky will remain partly cloudy with the possibility of rains or thundershowers along with strong gusty winds,” a scientist at India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The humidity at 8.30 a.m. was recorded at 66 per cent and the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 37 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature was settled at 36.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 28.2 degrees Celsius, the season’s average.

Western UP to witness Rain, Thunderstorm

Lucknow, June 18: Several areas of Western Uttar Pradesh likely to witness thunderstorm and rain accompanied with a dust storm within next two hours, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

According to the IMD, the monsoon is hovering over Maharashtra in the west and parts of Odisha, West Bengal and Assam in the east and northeast India.

Last week, a deadly thunderstorm hit several areas of Uttar Pradesh, killing 10 people and injuring 28 others.

Meanwhile, the residents of Delhi are facing an intense heat wave and reeling under a haze of dust brought by winds from Rajasthan, apparently raising the level of air pollution to severe category.

On Sunday, the national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 36 degrees, while the minimum temperature stood at 28 degrees.
