Former Doordarshan Anchor died after coconut palm falls on her


Mumbai, July 22: An ex Doordarshan anchor, Kanchan Nath (58), died after a coconut tree fall straight on her head while she was on a morning walk. The incident happened in Chembur on Thursday, July 20.

Kanchan Nath, also a yoga teacher, was taking a morning walk near her home when the incident took place at 8 am on Thursday. As she walked past Chandroday Society, a coconut tree there came crashing down on her head, knocking her down on the road.Passers-by pulled her out from under the tree and rushed her to hospital. The entire incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed at a nearby shop.

In the video, Kanchan Nath is seen wearing a blue t-shirt and black trousers, when without warning, the tree comes crashing on her. She immediately falls on the ground. Passers-by witness the incident and rush to her rescue.

Ms Nath was then taken to a hospital and was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. She died of her injuries this morning reported NDTV.

Rajat Nath, Kanchan’s husband, told mid-day, “This incident happened because the BMC did not allow the society to cut the tree, despite being informed that it could fall any time.”

Local corporator (ward 152) Asha Marathe said, “A team from BMC refused permission to cut the tree, as they had found it in good condition.”
