New Delhi, April 1, 2017: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh today sought an apology from Goa CM Manohar Parrikar for “cheating the people of the state”, and asked him to thank Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for “aggressive MLA buying”, thus helping him form the government in the state.

Singh on twitter said:

He added that:

Singh’s statement comes after newly elected Goa CM Manohar Parrikar on Friday took a derisive jibe at Congress leader Digvijaya Singh and thanked him for failing to install a Congress government in the state despite the party winning the most seats in the assembly polls.

In his farewell speech in the upper house of Parliament, Parrikar said: “I express my thanks to the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and members of this house for their support during my tenure as the Defence Minister and invite them to Goa whenever they want to come”.

Taking a jibe, he added that “My special thanks to honourable member Digvijay Singh, who is in charge of the Congress party’s affairs in Goa, “because he was roaming around in Goa and I was able to form the government in Goa.”

This Annoyed Congress MPs rushed to the Rajya Sabha Chairman’s podium to protest.

The remarks came during the Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, where Parrikar is still a member and had gone to thank other members for their cooperation during his stint as the defence minister.

Parrikar spoke amid the din created by the Congress members who started protesting as soon as he entered the House.

“Sir, we cannot allow him. He killed democracy in Goa,” Singh shouted pointing towards Parrikar.

Several other Congress members also shouted slogans while the BJP members thumped their tables to support Parrikar.
