Digital Census in 2021, Multipurpose ID card for citizens: Amit Shah

New Delhi, Sep 23 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that Population census will be done in 2021 and a mobile app will be used so as to transform from paper to digital and a multipurpose ID card for every citizen which includes passport, Aaadhar and the voter card.

“The National Population Register is being prepared for the first time in the 2021 census.It will be a transformation from paper census to digital census,” Shah said.

“A mobile app will be used in Census 2021. It will be a transformation from paper census to digital census,” Mr Shah said at event in Delhi.

“Population census is not a boring exercise. It is an exercise that helps to provide people the benefits of the government schemes. National Population Register (NPR) will help government solve many issues in the country,” Shah said.
India’s last census was carried out in 2011 when the country’s population stood at 121 crore.

In March this year, the government had announced that the next census will be done with March 1, 2021 as the reference date.

In a notification, the ministry said the decision has been taken by the central government under the powers conferred by section 3 of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948).
