Mohali, october 5 : Four more suspected dengue deaths have been reported from SAS Nagar district in the past 48 hours, taking the toll to 10.
Sahil (18) and his aunt Tabassum alias Guddi (45) of Ramban Colony, who had dengue-like symptoms, died at the PGIMER on Sunday and Monday, respectively.
A PGI official said, “I can’t confirm the deaths. We will do that on Wednesday and the report will be sent to the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Punjab.”
According to the family members, Tabassum’s 20-year-old son Hashim and family’s two other members, Nushrat and her husband Harsh, are also suffering from dengue.
She said Tabassum was initially under treatment at a private hospital in Kharar. “As her platelets dropped, she was administered blood. She was referred to PGI on Monday evening, where she died late night.”
Councillors Mann Singh said, “I had informed the health authorities about the two deaths but they failed to take note and send teams to get the fogging done.”
Kharar SMO Manraj Singh said he was unaware of dengue deaths. “The deaths reported are suspected and we are yet to get reports confirming that they died due to dengue,” said Dr Ranjit Guru, civil surgeon, SAS Nagar.
