Demonetization: Swamy blames Jaitley for long queues, defends Modi

Senior BJP leader Dr. Subramanian Swamy on Friday criticized Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for lack of preparations to implement demonetization.

Swamy said that Jaitley is responsible for the long queues outside banks and ATMs and not Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that Jaitley spoiled Modi’s plan while implementing and has forced the country to stand in queues for hours.

“The finance ministry’s preparations to implement demonetisation were not enough. All ATMs are being calibrated so that their sensor can read Rs 2,000 notes. This is a blunder resulting in further delay and long queues at the machines,” said Swamy.

“If the Rs 2,000 note was the same size as the Rs 1,000 note, then people would not have suffered for so long. People are neither getting cash from banks nor from ATMs,” he added.

Swamy also made remarks on the irritation of Shiv Sena over the currency ban. He said that Shiv Sena is irritated because they were not told about the same before. Earlier, Swamy expressed that the work done by Prime Minister is satisfactory but was disappointed with Finance Ministry.

Swamy was in Allahabad to attend a programme. He also said that, ahead of UP polls, BJP was dominating the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party.
