Demonetization made Kerala workers go without pay

Demonetization has created a great chaos throughout the nation. With currency crunch demonetization, workers in Kerala diary, cashew and plantation sectors are facing severe crisis. Seeing the situation, owners have warned that hundreds of families are going to be without food this weekend.

Daily wagers in these sectors are being paid their wages in cash, either on weekly basis or monthly basis. However, the unexpected ceiling on withdrawal of money has virtually disabled employers to disburse their employees’ wages.

The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (called MILMA), an umbrella society of three milk unions in the state, used to make payments to dairy farmers’ societies via bank accounts and afterwards, these societies, hand over cash to farmers every 10 days.
