May 29, Monday: Delhi police has arrested two youths over lynching a e-rickshaw driver on the basis of the CCTV footage of the area where the incident took place.
A 32-year-old e-rickshaw driver was beaten to death by a group of around 15 youths after he opposed them urinating outside the GTB Nagar Metro Station.
Victim has been identified as Ravinder, was screaming but no came forward to help when youths were brutally thrashing him using towel filled with stones , police said.
Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday , also condemned this act of inhumanity.
“He was promoting ‘Swachh Bharat’ and was suggesting others to follow the same. It is very unfortunate that he was killed only because he provided a useful suggestion. I spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and have asked him to take strongest action possible against culprits,” Naidu told news agency ANI.
Culprits have been speculated to be from Kirori Mal College of Delhi University’s North Campus according to eyewitness.
However , Delhi police have launched search operation to nab the accused and probe is underway.
