Delhi LG calls all party meet at 3 pm on Coronavirus crisis

Delhi L-G Anil Baijal

New Delhi, June 9: A day after overruling two key decisions of the Arvind Kejriwal government, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has called an “all-party meeting” to discuss how to control the spike in coronavirus cases in the capital.

The meeting will be held at 3 pm, said the Lieutenant Governor’s office. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is unwell and will undergo a coronavirus test today, is unlikely to attend the meeting.

LG overruled the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s decision to reserve hospitals except those run by the centre for residents of Delhi.

He also reversed a decision to test only those showing symptoms of COVID-19 and said asymptomatic cases and high-risk contacts of a virus patient will also be tested.

The L-G has directed the concerned departments and authorities of NCT of Delhi to ensure that treatment is not denied to any patient on grounds of not being a resident of Delhi.

Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in isolation due Covid-19 like symptoms, said that the order will create challenges for people of Delhi.

“LG’s order has created a huge problem and challenge for the people of Delhi. Providing treatment for people coming from all over the country during the corona epidemic is a big challenge. Maybe God has tasked us with serving the people of the whole country. We will try to provide treatment to all,” Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet.
