Delhi High Court dismissed a plea seeking Martyr status for revolutionary freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. The court dismissed the plea stating that it can not issue any such direction.

The plea demanding martyr status for Bhagat singh and his other fellows was filed by advocate Birender Sangwan.
A bench of acting chief justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar stated, “The plea is dismissed. We cannot issue such a direction.”

However the petitioner also failed to answer the court’s query on whether there is any law under which the court has the power to issue any such direction.

Bhagat singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev shot British junior police officer, John Saunders at Lahore in present day Pakistan, mistaking him for a British police superintendent who ordered violent action on the protestors, protesting against Simon Commission. This violent action by police on the orders of James A. Scott also took life of extremist leader Lala Lajpat Rai.
