The Delhi High Court on Wednesday deferred the bail plea of Jawahar lal Nehru students union president Kanhaiya Kumar to February 29 and asked the police to ensure that his lawyers “do not even suffer a scratch.”
Meanwhile, The Delhi Police informed the high court that they will seek fresh remand of Kumar as two more JNU students have been arrested on sedition charges. The court asked the police to conduct remand proceedings secretly so that the arrested students – Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya – are not harmed.
Late Tuesday night JNU students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya had surrendered. Police sources said both students had moved out of the JNU campus and were in their custody. They were driven out of the campus in a vehicle belonging to the JNU security firm and were met by police officers in two vehicles.
