New Delhi, Sep 12: The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought the CBI’s response on a plea of former finance minister P Chidambaram, lodged in Tihar Jail in the INX Media corruption case, seeking bail in the matter.
The Court has asked Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file status report in his bail plea case in 7 days.
Congress leader P Chidambaram’s lawyers have also withdrawn their second plea challenging judicial custody of him.
Justice Suresh Kait issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Chidambaram’s bail plea in which he has claimed that it was the case of “political vendetta”.
Senior advocates Kapil Sibal, Dayan Krishnan, Arshdeep Khurana and Salman Khurshid are pleading the case in court on behalf of Chidambaram.
The 73-year old-Congress leader also withdrew from the high court his plea challenging the trial court’s order remanding him to judicial custody till September 19.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and advocate Amit Mahajan represent the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case.
On August 21, the CBI had arrested Chidambaram from his residence in the posh Jor Bagh area of New Delhi.
Besides the INX Media Directors Indrani and Peter Mukherjea, the CBI has also booked Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram and Padma Vishwanathan, Director, Chess Management Services and Advantage Strategic Consulting Ltd.
