Srinagar, Sep 29, 2017: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived here on Friday on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir during which she will visit the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield.
The minister, who took charge earlier this month, will also visit forward posts on the LoC along the Pakistani-administered Kashmir (PoK) and the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China in the Ladakh region and the Siachen Glacier — world’s highest battle field at an altitude 5,400 metres during the 2 day tour.
This would be her first visit since she assumed office as the Defence Minister of the country.
She is likely to accompanied with Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat, sources said.
She will call on top army commanders to review the security situation in the valley focusing on anti-militancy operations those have taken a heavy toll of militants during the recent months.
“Anti-militancy operations will be reviewed by the defence ministry during her stay in the state,” sources said.
