Deaths on train tracks: Chidambaram attacks Modi government

New Delhi, July 19 : Former finance minister P Chidambaram attacked the Narendra Modi government over the report that nearly 50,000 people have lost their lives on railway tracks after being hit by trains in three years and asked Is this the Achhe din Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised in 2014.

“Open the newspapers and you will find: * 50,000 persons died after being hit by trains in last 3 years * 38% trains delayed in last 3 months Is this the ‘Achhe din’ that was promised in 2014?,” Chidambaram tweeted.

Nearly 50,000 people have lost their lives in the last three years on railway tracks after being hit by trains, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

He said 49,790 deaths were reported between 2015-2017. Deaths on railway tracks occur due to trespassing, violating safety and cautionary instructions, avoiding over bridges, using mobile phones and other electronic gadgets while crossing railway tracks, Gohain said.

The senior Congress leader even questioned the Narendra Modi government  over the failure in delivering the promise of  creating 2 crore jobs a year.
