Darbhanga, Dec 22: Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will lay the foundation of an interim terminal building and runway re-carpeting work at Darbhanga airbase on Monday, December 24.
Union civil aviation minister Suresh Prabhu and his junior Jayant Sinha will also join the foundation laying ceremony.
Regional flight operations are proposed to commence from Darbhanga airfield to Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai under ‘Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik’ or Udan scheme of the union ministry of civil aviation.
Media reports said the length of the runway at Darbhanga airfield is around 8,000 feet, which is suitable for operation of aircraft like Airbus A-320, extensively used by domestic carriers.
Low-cost airline SpiceJet is slated to operate flights from Darbhanga to Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai under Udan scheme.
