On the third day of Parliament, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday spokes on the issue of thrashing Dalit youths in Gujarat’s Una.
Singh said that 9 have been arrested in connection with Una incident and over 7 people have been remanded to judicial custody, however, he added that four police personnel have been suspended for negligence of duty.
Singh also praises efforts of Gujarat Government in handling situation post Una incident but just after Home Minister appreciate the state government, the opposition parties creates uproar in the Parliament.
While the minister calls atrocities against dalits a social evil and urges all parties to come together to fight the problem.
Gujarat has seen a sharp decline in atrocities against Dalits since the BJP is in power in the state. “During Congress rule in Gujarat number of cases of atrocities against Dalits were high, sharp decline since BJP is in power,” Singh added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemn the Una incident in Gujarat and also took cognizance of the issue.
On the other hand, Opposition party leader Mallikarjun Kharge countered Rajnath Singh on this by saying “They keep bringing out the fact that everything bad happened in the last 65-70 years… I must remind them that their fathers and grandfathers were part of the Congress Party back then.”
