Patna, Sep 18: In yet another incident of mob attack, a Dalit youth was lynched to death on suspicion of theft in Bihar’s Nawada district.
The deceased identified as Rupan Manjhi was beaten to death with bamboo sticks, bricks and iron rods on Monday night in Lavarpura village.
“Police rescued brutally beaten and unconscious Manjhi from the clutches of the mob. However, he succumbed to injuries soon after reaching hospital,” Hisua Police Station Officer incharge Rajdeo Sao told IANS.
As per the police officials, a group of four thieves barged into a house but after the family raised an alarm three of the thieves fled from the spot while one was held by the villagers and lynched to death.
Police have lodged a case and an investigation is underway.
This year several incidents of mob attack have been reported across the country.
Recently, a 26-year-old Muslim man named ‘Farooque Khan’ was lynched to death on suspicion of being a motor vehicle thief in Manipur’s Tharoijam area.
