RSS-BJP playing poisionous politics: Rahul on atrocities against Dalit kids

Maharashtra, June 15 : Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused Bharatiya Janta Party and its ideological parent RSS of marginalising and assaulting Dalits and tweeted a video of Maharashtra youths who were beaten up and paraded naked in Wakadi village in Jalgaon district for swimming in a well that allegedly belonged to an upper caste man.

The Congress president also said that “history won’t forgive us if we don’t raise our voices against poisonous politics of the RSS and the BJP.”

In another shocking incident of atrocities against Dalits, three minor Dalit boys were stripped, beaten and paraded nude in a village for allegedly swimming in a village well. The incident occurred on June 10 but came to the fore only after some videos of the boys parading naked in the Vakadi village found its way into social media.

Gandhi’s comments on the issue have snowballed into a major political controversy as  Union Minister for Social Welfare Ramdas Athawale condemned the shameful incident and said he will visit the village to meet the victims and their families.

“The sole crime of these Dalit children was they were taking a dip in a well. Humanity is struggling to save its dignity,” Gandhi tweeted, came even as a high-level team of Maharashtra Congress visited the village to assess the situation.

“The crime of these Dalit children of Maharashtra was just that they were taking bath in a well belonging to an upper caste man…..History won’t forgive us if we don’t raise our voices against the Manuvadi and poisonous politics of the RSS and the BJP,” reads the translation of the tweet by Rahul Gandhi.

The video purportedly shows the two boys — aged 15 and 16 — being beaten up with a belt and paraded naked in Pahur village in Jamner taluka by the accused duo, a local police official said.

The incident served as a major embarrassment for the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena combine even as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is on a tour of Dubai, Canada and the US to attract investment.

When some locals learnt of it, a large number of people, including many from upper castes, gathered near the well and pulled out the boys.

They were shouted at and subjected to abuses before some persons allegedly forced the boys to strip and paraded them nude around the village.

New Delhi, July 12 : The Land & Development Office, which comes under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has sent a notice to news agency PTI, demanding it to cough up more than Rs 84 crore as penalty. The notice dated July 7 says that the penalty has been imposed due to “breaches” at its office in Delhi.

The notice that sought Rs 84,48,23,281 argues that “the less will be pleased to regularise the breaches in the premises temporarily up to 14.07.2020 and withdraw the right of re-entry of the premises subject to the following conditions being fulfilled by you within 30 days from the date of issue of this letter.”

The notice also stipulates that the news agency needs to give an undertaking on non-judicial stamp paper stating that it will pay the difference of “misuse/damage charges” if the land rates are revised with effect from 01.04.2016 by the government and will also remove the “breaches” by 14.07.2020 or get them regularised by paying charges.

The notice also warns that further action to execute the deed has to be subject to complete payment and putting the premise to use according to the masterplan.

The Land & Development Office so warned that an additional 10 per cent interest may need to be coughed out by PTI if it fails to furnish the concerned amount within the stipulated time period.

Additionally, if the news agency fails to comply with the terms within the said period, the concession will be withdrawn. In other words, they will have to pay the penalty up to the actual date of payment then and will also be subject to actions.

This stern notice for alleged violations by PTI comes closely on the heels of national broadcaster Prasar Bharati locking horns with PTI over its reportage that it called “anti national”.

Prasar Bharti had recently sent a letter threatening to end its “relationship” with PTI after it carried an interview of Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong, where he blamed India for the India-China violent standoff that saw 20 Indian bravehearts getting martyred.
