Dalai Lama to release his autobiography in Assamese

It is the first Assamese version of any book written by the Tibetan spiritual leader, and is being published by Lawyer’s Book Stall, which is celebrating its 75th year of inception.

Guwahati, March 22 : The Assamese translation of “My Land and My People”, the autobiography of Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, will be released here next month.

The spiritual leader will himself release the book, which is titled “Mor Desh aru Mor Manuh” in Assamese on April 2 at IIT Guwahati here.

It is the first Assamese version of any book written by the Tibetan spiritual leader, and is being published by Lawyer’s Book Stall, which is celebrating its 75th year of inception.

Bhaskar Dutta Baruah of Lawyer’s Book Stall said that the publishing house is also looking at “bring out some other notable works of the Dalai Lama in Assamese” one by one.

The book was first published in 1962 and later it was translated into various other languages. The Assamese translation has been done by Indrani Laskar.

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday announced to increase the penalty on gathering of more than 100 people at marriages from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000.

Chairing a meeting to review the steps taken to contain COVID spread in the state, he said administration and police personnel should take rounds in the market to ensure all due protocols are being followed with due care in reference to night curfew announced on Saturday as well as to ensure that set number of people’s limit is not crossed.

The wedding organisers should also be updated in this context that more than 100 people are not permitted in the wedding function, he added.

District collectors, superintendents of police and other senior officials have been given responsibility to ensure night curfew norms are maintained in eight districts as announced and not more than 100 people are gathered in the crowd. Every person should wear masks and social distancing norms should also be followed, the Chief Minister said.

Notably, the state government announced night curfew in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota, Alwar, Udaipur, Alwar and Ajmer.

Also the penalty for those not wearing masks was increased to Rs 500 from Rs 200 on Saturday.

The Chief Minister on Sunday said that the state government’s major objective is to save lives of people.

On Sunday, a total of 3,260 new COVID cases and 17 deaths were reported.

Mumbai: Pop star Justin Bieber is curious about the Covid situation in India, and whether people are wearing masks.

Recently, Bieber held a live session on Instagram, and was joined by Indian Tik Tok star Riyaz Aly. Among other things, they discussed India’s situation during the pandemic.

Bieber, who joined in from home in the US, asked Riyaz: “What’s Covid looking like over there?”

While the video is not clear and is not audible properly due to connection issues, Riyaz replied: “Covid is still going on. Like, a crazy thing is going on.”

To this, Bieber admitted: “Yes, it is pretty crazy.”

He asked if people are wearing masks, to which Riyaz said: “yes”.

“Damn!” Bieber exclaimed.

Doctor commits suicide over wife’s affair

Gurugram: A doctor, who worked in a prominent hospital in Gurugram, has allegedly committed suicide by injecting himself with poison at his flat on Saturday over his wife’s alleged extramarital affair, the police said.

A complaint was filed against the deceased’s wife by his father, Vinod Sodhi, at Sector-50 police station in Gurugram.

The deceased has been identified as Manuj Sodhi (47), a native of Bhiwadi in Rajasthan.

Sodhi was living with his wife Monika and children in Orchid Petals Society at Sector-49 here. The couple had a love marriage around 22 years ago.

Victim’s father in his complaint said that Monika is a teacher in a renowned school in Gurugram.

“Manuj had informed us about Monika having an affair with someone for last three years. Tensed over his wife’s affair, he injected himself with poison,” Vinod said in his complaint.

“The neighbour saw him unconcious and rushed him to the doctor before calling the police. He was declared brought dead by the doctors,” Vinod added.

The police reached the hospital and took the body in its custody for medical examination. Further investigation is on in the case.
