Daati Maharaj joins investigation in rape case

New Delhi, June 19: Self-styled godman Daati Maharaj on Tuesday joined investigation in the alleged rape case against him.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police took over the rape case involving Daati last week.

Maharaj has been accused of raping a disciple inside Shani Dham two years ago.

The woman filed the case in Fatehpur Beri police station on Sunday. It was later transferred to District Investigation Unit (DIU).

Self-proclaimed godman has been booked under Indian Penal Code, sections – 376, 377, 354 and 34.

The woman disciple has alleged that she was sexually assaulted inside Shani Dham two years ago. Because of fear and social stigma, she didn’t file a complaint earlier as she felt intimidated by the self-styled godman.

On the related note, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson Swati Maliwal sought a police protection for the women.

Maliwal wrote to the SHO of Fatehpur Beri police station, urging him to look into the matter and provide immediate protection to the victim.
