Cyclone Pabuk heading to Andaman islands

Jan6 : The cyclonic storm Pabuk is heading towards the Andaman islands and an orange alert has been sounded.“PABUK” storm from Gulf of Thailand and adjoining areas moved west-northwestwards at a speed of 20 kmph over the past 6 hours and emerged into Andaman Sea in the morning.

Warning has been issued as power and communication lines are likely to be disrupted . People in the Islands have been advised to remain in safe places and fishermen have been advised not to venture into Andaman sea till January 8.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it will move northwestwards and cross Andaman Islands late on Sunday as a cyclonic storm with wind speed upto 90 kmph.

This is likely to trigger heavy rainfall over Andaman Islands from today evening. The sea condition has been predicted to be high over the Andaman sea along and off south Myanmar and Thailand coast till Saturday evening and is likely to become very rough over southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman Islands and adjoining Andaman sea over the next 48 hours.
