CWG 2018: Saikhom Mirabai Chanu wins India’s first gold in women’s weightlifting

Gold Coast, April 5: Showcasing a power-packed performance  Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won India’s first gold in women’s weightlifting 48 kg category at the 21st edition of Commonwealth Games on Thursday.

The Manipuri lifter left the competition far behind by setting Games records in the snatch, clean and jerk as well as the total.

She bagged 86 kg in the snatch and 110 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 196 kg.

Marie Hanitra of Mauritius finished a distant second with a total of 170 kg while Sri Lanka’s Dinusha Gomes took bronze with 155 kg.
