New Delhi, June 19 : The CPI-M on Friday suggested that the government should initiate talks with China to resolve the LAC standoff, and supported its move to ensure peace on the borders.
“Government of India should initiate high level talks, so that steps are taken, including clear demarcation of the LAC, to maintain peace and tranquility on the border, the Communist Party of India-Marxist said following the all-party meet called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the flare-up that left 20 Indian soldiers dead.
General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, who participated in the meeting, said: “The CPI-M expresses its deep condolences at the death of our army officers and soldiers in the recent clash that took place along the Indo-China LAC, at the Galwan Valley in Ladakh.”
The statement said in the talks between the Minister for External Affairs and his Chinese counterpart, the official statement said: ”At the conclusion of the discussion, it was agreed that the overall situation would be handled in a responsible manner, and both sides would implement the disengagement understanding of 6 June sincerely. Neither side would take any action to escalate matters and instead, ensure peace and tranquility as per bilateral agreements and protocols”.
“As the Government of India has adopted this stand, the CPI-M extends its support to this approach,” it said.
