COVID-19: 12 who attended Delhi conference test positive in Rajasthan

Jaipur, April 1 : The Rajasthan health officials on Wednesday evening confirmed that 12 people who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area have tested positive for coronavirus.

The officials added that these cases were reported soon after 13 positive cases came up from Ramganj in Jaipur and two were reported from Jodhpur on Wednesday.

Out of these 12, four are from Tonk, one from Alwar and seven positive cases from Churu, said Additional Chief Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh, adding that the tally of corona positive cases have now touched 120 in the state.

Overall, 27 new cases came from Rajasthan on Wednesday out of which 26 are residents of Rajasthan( 13 from Jaipur, 2 from Jodhpur including one being an evacuee from Iran and 12 new cases who attended Tabligi Jamat event).

Total positive cases in the state are 102 (including 2 Italians), which take the total cumulative number to 120.

Lucknow officials begin anti-CAA property attachment process

Lucknow, July 1 : The Lucknow administration has restarted the process of attaching properties of the accused who vandalised public property during the anti-CAA riots in December last year.

The district administration attached a garment and a junk store in Hasanganj area.

“The FIRs were registered in four police stations and notices were served to 54 persons for recovery of damages. Two properties in Hasanganj locality have been attached and the process will continue in the coming days,” said Shambhu Sharan Singh, a district official.

The junk shop belongs to one Mahenoor Chaudhary while the garment shop is owned by Dharamvir Singh. Both are accused in the anti-CAA riots.

The attachment of property was done as per the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Recovery of Damages to Public and Private property ordinance-2020 and the orders for the same were passed by Additional District Magistrate Vishwa Bhushan Mishra.

The protests against the CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) witnessed a violence in the city on December 19.

It may be recalled that the Yogi Adityanath government had assessed losses to the tune of crores during the riots and administration had sent recovery notices worth about Rs 1.55 crores to over 50 people responsible for the damages.

In March, the district administration had displayed photographs and addresses of protesters on hoarding in the state capital.

The matter was taken to court but after the Corona spread, the Lucknow administration, on March 20, called off all coercive including attachment of property and arrest of the accused.

Congress leader Shahnawaz Alam, also an accused in the anti-CAA protests, was arrested form his residence on Monday night.

Deoria, July 1 : A station house officer (SHO) of Bhatni police station in Uttar Pradesh”s Deoria was suspended for allegedly masturbating in front of a woman.

The woman, who had gone to file a complaint in the police station, filmed the incident which has now gone viral on the social media.

The video then sparked controversy in the area with the local people seeking action against the officer.

The woman has alleged that the officer Bhishm Pal Singh, was touching his private parts in front of her when she was taken to his chamber to lodge the complaint.

The complainant woman said, “I ignored his misbehaviour for the first 2-3 times and wanted him to lodge our case in the land dispute. But then one of my relatives had said that she also faced a similar incident at the hands of this officer. This is when I decided to film him.”

SP Deoria Shripati Mishra said, “An FIR has been registered against him and he has been suspended. Action is being taken.”

Lucknow, June 30 : Shahnawaz Alam, the chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Congress minority cell, was arrested by the Lucknow police, late on Monday night, for his alleged involvement in the anti-CAA violence which took place in December last year.

A CCTV video circulated by UP Congress leaders shows cops taking away Alam from outside an apartment, close to the chief minister”s residence, in a police vehicle.

A statement issued after midnight by DCP central, Dinesh Singh, said that Shahnawaz was arrested for his involvement in the anti-CAA protest which took place on December 19, 2019 in Lucknow. He has been arrested after the police gathered sufficient evidence against him.

The police said, Shahnawaz”s mobile locations have confirmed his presence in places where the violent protests took place.

Meanwhile, UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu and state Congress legislative party leader Aradhana Misra, along with the party workers, reached the Hazratganj police station to inquire about the action against the party leader and two other people.

The Congress leaders also had an argument with senior cops at the police station.

As some party workers started slogan shouting inside the police station, the cops resorted to lathi-charge to disperse them. Shivam Tripathi, youth wing general secretary, was injured in the police action while another party worker Tariq suffered a fracture.

UP Congress media convener Lalan Kumar said, “Shahnawaz, his driver and a party worker were picked up by the police on Monday late evening. However, the police arrested Shahnawaz and released the other two people. The cops have also seized a vehicle. This government is behaving like an autocrat and is unnecessarily targeting Congress leaders and workers who are exposing the wrong doings of the state government.”

He said that the government had earlier booked our state president Ajay Kumar Lallu under false charges and now other leaders are being targeted.

“However, our voice cannot be muzzled and we will continue to fight for the rights of migrant workers and the deprived,” he added.

Shahnawaz Alam, a native of Ballia district, was affiliated to Rihai Manch, a human rights” group, before he joined the Congress in 2018.

Said to be a member of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra”s core team, Shahnawaz was appointed as the chairman of the Congress minority cell in January this year. The appointment caused considerable heartburn among party leaders who felt he was relatively new in the party and should not have been given the responsibility.
