New Delhi, July 15: The CPI-M on Friday has said that an Uttar Pradesh court’s direction to register an FIR against the family of the slain Mohammed Akhlaq over alleged cow slaughter “is a gross travesty of justice”.
The petition was filed to the court “by those who were involved in the brutal murder and lynching of Akhlaq and who have been forcing the family to withdraw the case”, the Communist Party of India-Marxist said.
“Shockingly, the court gave the order without even hearing the lawyer of the family members,” it said, and asked the UP government to take a note on the matter and take necessary legal steps against the court order.
A mob ran into Akhlaq’s residence at Dadri in September last year and killed him after charging him with consuming cow meat.
However, the family denied the charges saying that the meat found in the fridge was mutton.
