San Francisco, Aug 9, After 63 years of marriage an American couple died just 20 minutes apart in the same room at a nursing home in South Dakota, reports Xinhua news agency.
“We’re calling it’s a beautiful act of God’s providential,” Lee De Lange, one of their five children told KSFY, a CNN affiliate.
Suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, 87-year-old Jeantte had been living in the nursing home since 2011, while her husband, 86-year-old Henry, was battling prostate cancer but he still managed to visit the love of his life every day.
After being diagnosed with prostate cancer and suffering a few falls, Henry too moved to the nursing home where he shared a room with his wife.
Henry, a Korean War veteran, had been undergoing treatment at his local VA until the doctors there said there was nothing more that could be done for him.
On July 31, the family was told from hospital staff that “Both of them were not doing well”.
The doctor said that “Your dad’s pulse is worse, I wonder if he’ll go first,” Lee recalled. “About 5 minutes later, he said, ‘I think your mom will go very soon”.
At 5:10, Jeanette died peacefully as her children read to her and for her husband the Bible.
After Jeanette was gone, the couple’s son, Keith De Lange, turned to his father and told him “He could stop fighting if he wanted to.”
Then, Henry opened his eyes and looked over at his beloved wife and laid back down. And after 20 minutes later, Henry died.
“I looked at the clock and it stopped at 5.30, the exact time dad passed away,” Lee said.
“We’re calling it a beautiful act of God’s providential love and mercy, You don’t pray for it because it seems mean but you couldn’t ask for anything more beautiful,” said by Lee.
They has proven that even death is not strong enough to keep the loved ones separated.
