Srinagar, June 27: In a major breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday identified killers of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari.
Senior police officer privy to the probe told the Indian Express “We have identified the attackers, adding “Two of them are local militants from south Kashmir while the third one is from Pakistan”.
According to the sources, the Pakistani terrorist involved in the attack is Naveed Jatt, who escaped from police custody from Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital in February this year.
Naveed is a Pakistani national and associated with militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
Editor-in-Chief of English daily “Rising Kashmir” Shujat Bhukhari was shot dead by three men outside his office in Srinagar’s press enclave on June 14.
Following the attack, Jammu and Kashmir Police released a CCTV footage of suspected killers Bhukhari.
The murder drew wide condemnation from politicians across India and media organisations.
