Fast paced developments in the Samajwadi party ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections show Akhilesh Yadav emerging as the central figure in the party having been made national president of the party “unanimously” at the convention, sidelining and isolating Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Mulayam’s confidant Shivpal Yadav has been sacked as the state party president by more than 200 of SP’s 229 legislators and Amar Singh was also expelled from the party for carrying out anti-party activities intended to destroy the party in connivance with external forces. The national convention also authorized Akhilesh to constitute a national executive ,parliamentary board and various state units ,as required and inform the Election Commission of the developments at the earliest. At Ram Gopal’s convention,Naresh Uttam Patel has been appointed as new state unit chief in place of Shivpal.
The entire crisis in the Samajwadi Party was originated by the BJP through President Amit Shah after RSS and intelligence agencies came to the conclusion that the prospects of BJP wining the Uttar Pradesh elections looked bleak as Akhilesh Yadav is working on entering into an alliance with Congress and the RLD ahead of the elections that may bring about the formation of a coalition government in the state.
The BJP through Amar Singh is trying to mislead Mulayam and create bad blood among the Mulayam Parivar so that the reputation of Samajwadi party suffers affecting its poll prospects in future.
Mulayam Singh Yadav’s desire of becoming Prime Minister is no secret but he forgets that with his party disintegrating in the family feud may not fulfill his ambition as Akhilesh’s vision is to prepare the party for a national role in 2019 Lok Sabha polls and for wining the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections the distribution of seats among SP-Congress-RLD is necessary which ultimately can realize Mulayam’s goal.
Akhilesh said “I will take every step to save my father (from conspirators) and strengthen the party . I am ready to make sacrifices,” . Further stated “Mulayam Singh is my father and continues to hold the highest position for the party and me.”
Rather Mulayam is now being instigated to crop up fringe issues of symbol which can mar the election prospects of Samajwadi Party once Election Commission freezes the cycle symbol of the party.
It is therefore advisable for Mulayam to see through the games of BJP which has already engineered defections in democratically-elected non-BJP governments in Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarkhand and is following suit in Tamil Nadu.
