New Delhi, July 2 :The Congress on Monday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for issuing a ‘new license’ in ‘New India’ for intolerance where people are allowed to take law in their own hands and said it is high time that the government should immediately ban the culture of mob lynching prevailing in the country.
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “Is this the new India his party wants to create, where ruthless mobs take the law into their own hands and hapless people are lynched and beaten to death?, With no complaint filed, no hearing and no judicial procedure to be followed Rather a new license has been issued to the people to take law in their own hands and punish so that the justice can be done on the spot ” .
Accusing the NDA government of encouraging mob violence, Singhvi said, “In the last 4 years, a new license has been issued for intolerance. An atmosphere of fear is created which is the main reason for growing instances of mob lynching. When there is social imbalance, when a certain environment of differences and conflicts is created, poor people always suffer from its side effects.
“The structure of law is the same. But, rumour-mongering or a state-aided license to kill has caused this trust-deficit. This should weigh on our collective conscience,” Singhvi said during the press conference when asked about the creation of any new law for controlling the mob lynching.
ATtacking the Modi government, Singhvi said, ” The thinking process, ideology and the policies of the government and the ruling party has to change.”
He cautioned the government against the damage being done to India’s image and said four years had passed since the BJP came to power at the Centre and “we have seen enough of platitudes, speeches and alibis, it is time for some corrective action”.
