The leaders from Central government are throwing derogatory remarks over the suicide of an ex-serviceman. Many opposition leaders have condemned these comments.
Ram Kishan Grewal, 70, committed suicide over the delayed implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP). This suicide showcases the inability of the central government but the remarks from certain BJP leaders makes it is clear that they do not feel sorry for the incident.
Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala yet again on Thursday slammed Modi government and condemned General VK Singh’s remarks over the dead ex-serviceman.
Earlier, VK Singh had commented on the mental state of the ex-jawan. “He has committed suicide. No one knows the reason behind it. OROP is being shown as the reason. What his mental state was we do not know. Let it be probed first. OROP should be kept above politics,” said Singh which sparked a controversy.
The son of the fallen ex-jawan, Jaswant, expressing his sorrow over these remarks said that “My father served 30 years in security. He served as Sarpanch. But a BJP minister says he was mentally unstable.”
“Centre made no arrangements for the cremation. We faced many difficulties due to chaos,” he added.
Congress slams Modi government and seeks apology
Sujrewala asserted Modi government to apologize to the Indian Armed Forces and the family of the fallen ex-jawan. Grewal’s family members were, reportedly, beaten by Delhi Police. Targeting Modi on the implementation of OROP scheme he said that “if the scheme has at all been granted, then why were the soldiers protesting.” He questioned the granting of OROP and said that “PM Modi is lying.”
When asked about the politicization of this issue, Surjewala said that Congress is ready to do politics in order to protect Grewal’s family and give them their rights. He also said that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar should have come to the funeral to offer his condolences.
Aam Aadmi Party offers help to the family of the fallen soldier: Arvind Kejriwal arrived at the funeral and met the family of the fallen soldier and said that “He has died for the country. We will offer all our help and make even others help your family.” He announced that Delhi government will give martyr status to Ram Kishan and 1 crore rupees to the family of the late Ram Kishan Grewal. “Won’t let his (Grewal’s) death go in vain. Will snatch OROP from the central government” says Kejriwal.
Ram Kishan Grewal’s family is upset with the government as martyr status was not granted to the ex-serviceman. In response to the same, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has come up with a statement which can be counted as an insult to the fallen soldier. He said that “Shaheed are those who lay down their lives at the border, not who commit suicide.”
Earlier, BJP had politicized the surgical strikes by putting up banners of its leaders taking credit for the same and now, it is blaming other parties for the politicization of this suicide rather than apologizing and helping the family of the soldier.
