New Delhi, Oct 25: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday attacked the Narendra Modi government over the ongoing Central Burau of Investigation controversy saying, the removal of CBI chief Alok Verma is an insult to Constitution.

“Appointment and removal CBI director is done by a committee of three people PM, CJI and Leader of Opposition. But at 2 am in the night, the CBI director was removed. This is an Insult to the constitution, insult to CJI, insult to people of India and is illegal and criminal”, he said while addressing a press conference.

In a blistering attack on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress Chief stated “the main reason for this removal of CBI Director at midnight is that the probe agency was going to begin an investigation on the role of PM Modi in Rafale Scam and the corruption carried out by him”.

“PM’s reaction was in a panic. He is scared that he indulged in corruption and he could get caught”.

Gandhi further said that Verma was not only removed, his room was sealed.

“The incriminating documents that were with him were taken away and that is why the work was done at 2 AM. Not only the Director is being removed, efforts are also made to suppress evidence”, he alleged.

“It is illegal for CBI Director to be removed and illegal for a new man to be given charge of CBI. PM Modi has given the charge of CBI to someone whom he can control and who has been accused in several cases”.

The Congress President also questioned PM Modi’s silence on the entire Central Burau of Investigation controversy.

“Throughout all this the Prime Minister has not said a word. Main aapke samne aata hu, aap mujhse jo sawal poochna chahate ho poochte ho. Aap PM ko yahan baitha do aur unke samne 3-4 sawal Rafale pe puch lo.Table se uth ke bhaag jayange”, Gandhi told media.
