Congress hails SC’s Right to Privacy judgement

New Delhi, Aug 24, 2017: The Congress on Thursday hailed the Supreme Court’s judgement declaring the Right to Privacy a fundamental right by saying that it rejected the Narendra Modi-led government’s attempt to whittle it down.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted:

Congress leader P Chidambaram also hails SC judgement, says “Privacy is a fundamental right. The freedom that was won in 1947 has been enriched and enlarged.”

“Privacy is the core of personal liberty. Article 21 has acquired a new magnificence,” Chidambaram tweets.

The Congress leader’s remarks came soon after a nine-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice J.S. Khehar ruled that “right to privacy is an intrinsic part of Right to Life and Personal Liberty under Article 21 and entire Part III of the Constitution”.
